Pictures and Places

BACKGROUND

So, Gemma and Monce took me shopping today (vamos de compras). I took this opportunity to take photos and share with you all what the town looks like.

I work in Barcelona, but I live in Terrassa with Sr. Marcet's family in an apartment. I'll get pictures of the apartment eventually. These are photos from the Plaza, a central location in Terrassa, where there is a lot of shopping. Here we go.

PLAZA DE TERRASSA (OR, IN ENGLISH, TERRRRRRRRRRATHA)

So, it's gorgeous. A lot of ancient Mediterranean architecture. These a re a couple alleyways. There is this beautiful city council building....which I forgot to take a picture of. Smart, I know. Anyways, this is a bit of what it looks like.

On a side note, it takes FOREVER for photos to upload onto this blog. Forever. By which I mean minutes. So we are gonna stop here for now.

I have more later. When I have time to sit here and wait for it to upload.

Until then, other news.

IN WHICH EMILY LEARNS SPANISH!

I figure, to keep track of words I learn, I'm gonna write them down in the blog. That way, if you need to learn obscure words in Spanish, you can just come here.

melocoton- peach
pijo-snobby
chulo-cool
borrachos-drunks (I knew this one, but I remembered that I knew it this morning)
despacho-office
sobrino-stepbrother
lavandera-washing machine
comprometido-engaged (Gemma's friends mocking each other over how in love they were with their boyfriends. They kept saying that the other was "engaged" to her boyfriend. I spent like 5 minutes operating under the assumption that they were, actually, exgaged. Led to awkward conversations. fml)

Okay, I'm done for now. Next time, a post about Nespresso. Check out my pictures on facebook. They're friggin awesome.

  1. My partner in the DR spoke less Spanish than I did (the first day, she asked what "estar" meant) and so decided that every day, she was going to write down EVERY SINGLE new word that she learned.... For the first week, it was like 3 pages, back and front, two columns, of new words. And some really crazy ones too. I knew several of these lovely random words, but it's so true how high school spanish doesn't teach you the words you know. :( It sounds like you're having fun!!

Also, I need to stop referring to my time in the DR. Just hearing all of your stories makes me think of my time there... :P
